Elite Sports Committee set up

The Elite Sports Committee has been launched to advise on strategic development and funding priority for high performance sports in Hong Kong.

 

Chaired by Victor Hui, the committee's term of membership will be one year.

 

Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho said today: "Together with the Community Sports Committee and the Major Sports Events Committee set up in October, the Elite Sports Committee will provide input to the future Sports Commission to promote a sustainable sporting culture and to cultivate a stronger partnership with the private sector.

 

"It will advise the Government on developing a closer working relationship with different sectors of the local community and overseas sports training institutions to enhance the delivery of elite training programmes."

 

The members are: Professor Frank Fu (vice-chairman); Professor Bruce Abernethy; Chan Chi-choi; Professor Chan Kai-ming; Terence Chang; Cheung Wai-leung; Ian Fok; Vivien Fung; Fay Ho; Hung Chung-yam; Kwok Ka-ming; Professor Lau Wai-shing; Li Lai-shan; Roger Luk; Shen Jin-kang; Professor John Spinks; Tsin Yan-pui; Ian Wade; Tony Yue; Zhu Yan-lai; Pang Chung (Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of HK); Eddie Poon (Home Affairs Bureau); Johnny Woo (Leisure & Cultural Services Department); and, Chris Wardlaw (Education & Manpower Bureau).
