Fertilised egg imports considered: EK Yeoh
*

Importing fertilised chicken eggs and raising chickens locally from them is one of a number of proposals now being considered to solve our poultry supply problem.

Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong said if the fertilised egg proposal is implemented, it will take about a month for local farms to buy and install hatching machines, and there might be no local live chicken supply for a short period.

Understanding the difficulties faced by the trade, the Government will consider granting loans to those in need to buy the necessary equipment.

Noting that public health is always the Government's top priority, Dr Yeoh asked the trade to be considerate and to discuss the issue calmly.
