Carrie Yau to attend bird flu meeting in Beijing
*

Permanent Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Carrie Yau will lead a delegation to Beijing to attend a special meeting on avian influenza held by China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on March 2.

Food & Environmental Hygiene Deputy Director Dr Mak Sin-ping and Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Acting Deputy Director Lau Sin-pang will join Mrs Yau.

"The meeting will provide a forum for participants to take stock of the current situation in Asia and exchange their experience on the prevention and control of the disease," Mrs Yau said.

While in Beijing, Mrs Yau will also call on the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection & Quarantine to exchange views on the resumption of imports of chilled and frozen poultry meat from the Mainland.

Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Eddy Chan and the Director of Food & Environmental Hygiene Gregory Leung will join the visit.

Mrs Yau will leave for Beijing tomorrow and return to Hong Kong on March 3.
