Special arrangements for the renewal of expiring and expired vehicle and driving licences will be implemented until July 9 to avoid a pre-Budget rush, the Transport Department says.
All vehicle licences eligible for renewal on or before the March 10 Budget - vehicles that are registered at the time of renewal and with licence expiry dates falling on or before July 9 - can be renewed at the present rate until July 9.
All full Hong Kong driving licences and driving instructors' licences eligible for renewal on or before Budget Day and those that expired less than three years before the time of renewal up to July 9 can be renewed at the present rate until July 9.
The arrangements, adopted over the past three years, have been well received, with the number of licence renewal applications before the Budget announcement maintained at about the normal level.
The department said the arrangements are solely made to deal with the problem of long queues. Eligible licence holders need not have their licences renewed on speculation licence fees may be increased in the Budget.
