Sophie Leung has been re-appointed chairperson of the Women's Commission along with 11 incumbent members. Six new members have been appointed. The appointments take effect January 15.
The six new members, appointed for a three-year tenure, are: Chau Chuen-heung, Eva Cheng, Cordelia Chung, Andy Ho, Ko Po-ling, and Ng Sui-kou.
Coming from diverse backgrounds, the new members possess vast knowledge and extensive experience in sectors including women-related services, district affairs, entrepreneurship, information technology, public relations and education.
Apart from the Chairperson, the other 11 incumbent members who have been re-appointed are: Ophelia Cheung, Professor Fanny Cheung, Dr Susan Fan, Sophia Kao, Dr Joseph Kwok, Peggy Lam, Maurice Lee, Professor Judith Mackay, Diane Wilcoxson, Margaret Wong, and Dr Agnes Yeung.
The commission was set up on January 15, 2001 as a high-level central body which takes a strategic overview of women's issues. It plays a strategic role in advising the Government on the integration of policies and initiatives that are of concern to women.
