Two more gastroenteritis reports involving 23 people were received by the Department of Health today. The cases are being investigated and disinfection and other preventive measures are being carried out.
They involve the Po Leung Kuk Camoes Tan Siu Lin Primary School in Yau Tsim Mong and Heung Hoi Ching Kok Lin Association Buddhist Li Chong Yuet Ming Nursing Home for the Elderly in Sheung Shui.
The department's hotline (2961 8966) has received 242 enquiries so far. It urged people to strictly observe personal, food and environmental hygiene.
Prevention tips
* Wash hands thoroughly before handling food and eating and after using the toilet or handling vomit or faecal matter;
* wear gloves when disposing of vomit and faeces and wash hands afterwards;
* clean and disinfect contaminated areas and items promptly and thoroughly with household bleach diluted to a ratio of 1 to 49 units of water;
* maintain good indoor ventilation; and,
* make sure that food, particularly seafood and shellfish, is cooked thoroughly.
Students suffering from viral gastroenteritis should stay home until they recover.
The department reminds institutions to watch for symptoms of viral gastroenteritis and report any suspected outbreaks.
