UV advisories to be issued

*
HK Observatory

The Hong Kong Observatory will issue advisory messages in hourly weather reports when the ultraviolet index reaches 11 or higher.

The move, starting today, will help the public avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and prevent eye and skin damage.

The upgrade comes in the wake of the Anti-Cancer Society's report on health effects caused by excessive UV radiation. When the UV intensity reaches a high level people should take precautions. If the UV level increases further they should enhance protective measures.

Information on the UV Index can be found here or by calling 1878200. For measures against UV click here.
