March was warmer and sunnier than usual with a mean temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal, and 176.8 hours of sunshine, 97% above normal.

 

The Hong Kong Observatory said 57.2mm of rain was recorded in the month, about 14.2mm below normal. Accumulated rainfall for the first three months of the year was 118mm, about 21% below normal.

 

The weather remained fine and dry from March 1 to 12 with a continental airstream prevailing over southern China. The weather became cloudy with some rain on March 13 and 14 due to a trough of low pressure.

 

A ridge of high pressure along the coast of southern China brought fine weather on March 15 and 16. The weather became cloudy with some mist on March 17 and 18. It was fine with sunshine on March 19.

 

An intense northeast monsoon brought windy conditions  on March 20 and 21. There were thunderstorms on March 22 when a cold front moved across the coast of southern China. The weather stayed cloudy with rain the next day.

 

The weather was fine and dry with a northeast monsoon on March 24. It turned cloudy and rainy for the next two days but there were sunny periods on March 27.

 

Under the influence of a maritime airstream it was warm with fog patches March 28 to 30. The temperature rose to 28.1 degrees Celsius on March 29, the highest of the month. The northeast monsoon behind the cold front brought cool and rainy weather on March 31.
