Landfill gas utilisation project opens
*
Edward Yau listens to the introduction of the utilisation project
Green energy: Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau tours the facilities after officiating at the opening of the landfill gas utilisation project at the North East New Territories Landfill.
*

The Landfill Gas Utilisation Project at the North East New Territories Landfill has opened, marking one of the largest green energy recovery and re-use projects in the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today, Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau said it would cut the use of fossil fuel in town gas production and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improving the territory's air quality.

Far East Landfill Technologies Limited and the HK & China Gas Company Limited have built a treatment plant in the landfill and conveyed the gas to the Towngas plant in Tai Po as an alternative heating fuel for the towngas production.
