The Environmental Protection Department recorded 41 convictions in September for breaches of anti-pollution legislation.

There were 26 convictions for air pollution, seven for noise, six for waste disposal, and one each for water pollution and ozone-layer protection.

The heaviest fine of $40,000 was meted out to a company for using powered mechanical equipment without a valid construction noise permit.
