H20 upgrade: Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau sees how bioremediation has improved Shing Mun River's water quality.
*

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau has toured Sha Tin to inspect green measures in the district, such as how bioremediation has improved Shing Mun River's water quality.

Mr Yau first stopped today at Sha Tin Rowing Centre to learn how biological agents have helped neutralise the river's contaminants.

He then proceeded to City One Shatin where noise barriers will be retrofitted on Sha Tin Road. Works will start in mid-2009 for completion by the end of 2011.

At the Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School, Mr Yau saw "green" facilities on campus and learned about the school's environmental education efforts.

Before ending his visit, he met Sha Tin District Council members to seek their views on environmental protection and local affairs.
