The Environmental Protection Department has awarded a $257 million contract to Kaden Construction Limited to build an EcoPark in Tuen Mun Area 38.
The contractor is required to construct the basic infrastructure for the EcoPark, including site formation, internal roads, drains and sewers, utilities, an administration building, landscaping and related facilities.
Acting Director of Environmental Protection Dr Michael Chiu said the target is to make the land in Phase I available for the environmental and recycling industries' occupation by the end of 2006. The entire construction project is slated for completion by the end of 2009, he added.
The 20-hectare EcoPark aims to provide long-term land at affordable costs to the environmental and recycling industries. This move may encourage them to invest in more advanced and value-added recycling processes to help resolve Hong Kong's waste problem.
