Damrey makes landfall over Hainan

Slow moving: Typhoon Damrey moves away from Hong Kong, leaving strong winds and heavy rain in its wake.

Typhoon Damrey made landfall over Hainan Island and is moving across the island. It will continue to move away from Hong Kong. As local winds are moderating, the Hong Kong Observatory cancelled all typhoon warning signals at 8:20 this morning.

 

Whole-day kindergartens and Vocational Training Council skills centres for the disabled will suspend classes today. However, child care centres, elderly services centres and day rehabilitation units, including sheltered workshops and day activity centres, will remain open.

 

The weather for today will be cloudly with occasional squally heavy showers and thunderstorms. Expect strong easterly winds, gradually becoming fresh later. It will be cloudy with occasional squally heavy showers and thunderstorms. The weather will remain rainy tomorrow, but it will be mainly fine in the middle of the week.

 

The strong wind signal No 3 was issued at 8.40am on Saturday. Damrey intensified into a typhoon Saturday evening.
