Sewage treatment consultancy contract signed

*
Drainage Services Department

The Drainage Services Department today awarded a $2.9 million consultancy contract to Maunsell for an environmental impact study on disinfection facilities at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works.

Assistant Director of Drainage Services Hon Chi-keung said the Government will expedite part of the disinfection facilities proposed under the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A to improve harbour water quality.

Mr Hon said the study is the first step in taking forward Stage 2A, adding it will establish the most cost-effective and environmentally acceptable means of disinfection.

Set for completion in 2009, the facilities will improve effluent quality. For scheme details, click here.
