The Housing Authority will discuss the proposal of selling the remaining 4,000-plus surplus Home Ownership Scheme flats at the end of this month, Secretary for Transport & Housing Eva Cheng says.
Ms Cheng today told reporters the Government will suggest selling the flats in one go and the units can be put on sale in June at the earliest.
Noting the Housing Society will also sell all the remaining Sandwich Class Housing Scheme flats, Ms Cheng said the move will significantly boost the supply of small and medium-sized flats in the coming months.
Meanwhile, new measures will be explored to increase circulation in the HOS secondary market. Issues to be studied include:
* introducing new arrangements to make premium-payment by existing HOS flat owners easier and more flexible;
* simplifying the application procedures for the sale and purchase of HOS units;
* introducing alternative mortgage-guarantee arrangements for people who have interest in buying flats in the HOS secondary market.
Ms Cheng said the Government will study the suggestions and is now collecting data to assess the possible risks and financial burden. It is expected that the Housing Authority can start discussing the proposals in May.
