The Import & Export (Strategic Commodities) Regulations (Amendment of Schedule 1) Order 2008 will take effect from February 13, relaxing control over certain electronic devices and portable or mobile radiotelephones.
They are particular electronic components and devices with cryptographic functions, including analogue-to-digital converter integrated circuits with a resolution of 12 bits or more - usable in commercial applications such as cellular systems, broadband systems and digital radio systems.
Certain portable or mobile radiotelephones and similar client wireless devices with cryptographic function, including portable digital assistant devices and pocket personal computers for professional uses such as healthcare, are also among the items.
The Trade & Industry Department said today Hong Kong has been closely following the control thresholds international non-proliferation regimes adopt when implementing strategic trade control.
The current exercise updates Hong Kong's strategic commodities control list to reflect the latest revisions adopted in other regimes' control lists, including the Wassenaar Arrangement, the Australia Group, the Nuclear Suppliers Group and the Missile Technology Control Regime.
The department will inform traders of the changes through its circular and general advisory service. Click here for details, or call 2398 5587 or email for enquiries.
