*
Census & Statistics Department

Business receipts in most major service industries rose in value in the second quarter this year over the same period last year. Restaurant business receipts grew 15.3%, while those for wholesale-retail, and import and export trade, rose 14.3% and 14.1%.

The Census & Statistics Department today said other service industries recording notable business receipts growth included communications (11.6%), business services (11.2%) and transport (10.9%). However, banking industry business receipts fell 6.8%.

Analysed by service domain, tourism, convention and exhibition services' business receipts rose 14%, mainly attributable to the year-on-year increase in inbound visitor arrivals. Business receipts in the computer and information services grew 16.1%.

Compared with the first quarter, many service industries' business receipts rose in the second quarter. In particular, the import and export trade industry registered 11.4% growth. However, the financing (except banking) industry recorded a 7.2% fall.
