Comic artist wins international gold award

SCED congratulates Lau Wan-kit

Global achievement: Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau congratulates Hong Kong comic illustrator Lau Wan-kit.

*

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau met Hong Kong comic illustrator Lau Wan-kit to congratulate him on winning the Gold Award at the Second International Manga Award for his comic series "Feel 100%".

This is the second year in a row that a Hong Kong comic artist won the top prize of the award organised by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lee Chi-ching took the gold last year.

Mrs Lau said the Government would continue its commitment to support the development of Hong Kong's comics and digital entertainment sector, which was an integral part of Hong Kong's creative industry.

The Government sponsors the industry to organise international comics events, conduct roving shows locally, and participate in regional exhibitions to tap into the Mainland and overseas markets. It also provides training by sponsoring the production of teaching materials and including comic production in the curriculum of visual arts in secondary schools.

Mrs Lau said the Film Development Fund also facilitates the industry's development.
