Value of restaurant receipts rises 15%

The value of total receipts for the restaurants sector surged to $19.1 billion in the second quarter, up 15.3% on the same period last year, the Census & Statistics Department says. The value of total purchases by restaurants also rose 21.4% to $6.9 billion.

 

After discounting the effect of price changes total restaurant receipts rose 8.5% in volume.

 

Analysed by type of restaurant, total receipts of bars grew 18.4% in value or 12.7% in volume. Total receipts of non-Chinese restaurants also rose 15.9% in value or 9.7% in volume, while total receipts of Chinese restaurants grew 16.3% in value or 9.1% in volume.

 

Total receipts of miscellaneous eating and drinking places grew 10.8% in value or by 6% in volume. For fast food shops, total receipts rose 11.3% in value or 4.8% in volume.

 

On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison the volume of total restaurant receipts in the second quarter rose 1.1% on this year's first quarter.

 

Comparing the year's first half with the same period last year total restaurant receipts grew 15.6% in value or 9.3% in volume.
