Views sought on copyright protection
*

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau urges people, including Internet users, copyright owners and online service providers, to comment on preliminary proposals to enhance copyright protection in the digital environment by August 31.

The bureau published in April the preliminary proposals as the basis for further public consultation and consensus building.

It stated its position on the protection of copyright works transmitted to the public via all forms of communication technology, the role of online service providers in combating Internet piracy, and measures to facilitate copyright owners to take civil action against online infringement.

Views on how best to provide an environment conducive to creative industries' sustainable development in this digital era are welcomed. The bureau said today it will carefully consider views received before determining whether and how the preliminary proposals should be fine-tuned.
