Strategic commodities arrangement extended
*
Trade & Industry Department

The Trade & Industry Department has extended the coverage of "Approval-in-Principle Arrangement for Bulk Users of Strategic Commodities Licensing Service" to include electronic products.

Currently, only telecommunications and information security products are covered.

The arrangement is a major trade facilitation initiative launched in July 2007. The processing time is shorter for licence applications and the approved licences can be obtained electronically.

A firm which frequently imports from the same supplier or exports to the same consignee a less-sensitive product may apply for an approval-in-principle for such consignments.

The legal responsibilities of importers, exporters and carriers under the Import & Export Ordinance will not change under the arrangement.
