Chief Executive Donald Tsang has reappointed Peter Woo as Trade Development Council Chairman for a year from October 1, as the move will smoothen the Convention & Exhibition Centre expansion project.

Mr Tsang praised Mr Woo, 59, as a "Hong Kong trade ambassador", who excelled at promoting the city's trade and raising its international business profile.

He said Hong Kong must reinforce its position as an international trade fair capital, adding the centre's expansion is crucial to the exhibition industry. The project will move into a critical phase next year.

Mr Woo chairs Wheelock & Company and its associate company, Wharf (Holdings).
