Non-provision of selected services on Saturdays from July 1 will have no significant impact on traders and the public, the Government says.

 

Trade and industry related services are highly accessible through electronic means and public can obtain such services anytime online.

 

Users can apply for business registration and stamp instruments related to property transactions on the web, while applications for Certificates of Origin and lodgement of Production Notifications with the Trade & Industry Department are already 100% electronic. Drop-in boxes are also made available in various departments for submission of documents anytime.

 

The following services will not be provided on Saturdays from July 1:

 

* Customs & Excise Department: Applications for dutiable commodities and controlled items licence, permit, authorisation, approval;

* Intellectual Property Department: Applications for trade mark, patent, design registration;

* Trade & Industry Department: Applications for certificates of origin and textiles licensing, Support & Consultation Centre for Small & Medium Enterprises, and Collection & Form Sale Office;

* Census & Statistics Department: Enquiries related to import and export declarations;

* Inland Revenue Department: Tax-related enquiries and applications (including profits tax and stamp duty), and business registration.

* Companies and Land Registries: Inspection of certificates of origin and clearance at passenger and cargo terminals by the Customs & Excise Department will continue to operate on Saturdays.
