HK, Guangdong cooperation urged
*

Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council Chairman Dr Victor Fung says Guangdong and Hong Kong must step up co-operation and strive to achieve substantive results to enhance the region's competitiveness.

At a meeting with Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua this morning, Dr Fung said the Mainland's entry to the WTO has brought about business opportunities for both the Mainland and Hong Kong.

"Following the trend of globalisation, the fluctuation of external economic forces will greatly impact both Guangdong and Hong Kong. "

Dr Fung said the two places should work together to develop a high value-added and knowledge-based economy.

They should also join hands in enhancing the standard of environment, science and technology, innovation and talent in the region, he added.

Dr Fung is leading a delegation for a three-day visit to Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The delegation will leave for Nanning later today.
