HK can aid PRD development: CE

Team player: Chief Executive Donald Tsang says Hong Kong can use its expertise to foster Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional co-operation.

Hong Kong can use its finance, logistics and professional expertise to foster pan-Pearl River Delta co-operation, Chief Executive Donald Tsang says.

Speaking after the conclusion of the second Pan-PRD Regional Co-operation & Development Forum in Chengdu today, Mr Tsang said the 11 authorities represent different interests and have their own strengths.

"I think it is too broad-brushed to say there should be one leader going to lead everything in this movement, and there will be a lot of different takes and there will be a lot of collective effort. What we need to do is to ensure we are able to deliver what we believe is the best we can offer in this coalition, so it will encourage multilateral development, particularly regional development on one hand, and benefit our own economy on the other."

Mr Tsang said Hong Kong is a finance, logistics and professional service leader, and the Government will advocate policy directions to take initiatives in those areas.

"We are leading a delegation to Fujian to promote financial services and we are going to follow it up with another forum to be held in Hong Kong in March. We are going to do the same thing as regards logistics development, as well as professional services."

On the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, Mr Tsang said it is an important cross-boundary infrastructure project, adding Hong Kong will try its best to co-operate with Guangdong to ensure timely completion of the project.
