MC6 preparations satisfactory: John Tsang

*

The preparation work for the Sixth World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference is going satisfactorily, Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology John Tsang says.

Speaking to the media today, Mr Tsang said he felt sorry that members have not been able to achieve the "July Approximation" as intended.

But the body has been able to come up with quite a lot of 'middle-of-the-course' type of proposals, he added.

"In the past, a lot of the different members have been quite fixed on the extreme position and they had not been able to move, but now we are able to come up with some middle positions and hopefully that will be the mainstream positions that will dominate in the future negotiations," Mr Tsang said.

"We hope to capture this momentum and bring it to a significant result by the time we have our ministerial conference here in Hong Kong."
