In June 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods increased 19.7% over the same month in 2002, while that of domestic exports fell 11.2%.
Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew 16.7%. At the same time, the volume of imports of goods rose 12.9%.
Six-month re-export growth surges
During the first half of 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rose 19.4%, while that of domestic exports fell 12.3%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew 16.5%.
Over the same period, imports of goods increased by 14.3% in volume.
Three-month import volume dips 1.1%
Comparing the three-month period ending June 2003 with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods recorded an increase of 2.4%.
Within this total, the volume of re-exports went up 2.7%, while that of domestic exports fell 1.8%. Over the same period of comparison, the volume of imports of goods dipped 1.1%.
Export, import prices slip slightly year on year
Comparing June 2003 with a year earlier, the prices of re-exports of goods fell 2%, while those of domestic exports increased 0.7%.
Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods slid 1.8%. Over the same period, the prices of imports of goods decreased by 0.6%.
First-half overall export, import prices see small slide
In the first half of 2003, prices of re-exports of goods dropped 1.3% over a year earlier, while those of domestic exports rose by 0.8%.
Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods were down by 1.1%. At the same time, the prices of goods imports fell 0.2%.
