New broadcasting watchdogs named
*

The University of Science & Technology's Professor Leonard Cheng and Diocesan Girls' School Headmistress Stella Lau have been appointed Broadcasting Authority members from September 1.

Professor Cheng, the university's Department of Economics head, also serves on the Manpower Development Committee.

Mrs Lau is a co-opted member of the Broadcasting Authority Complaints Committee and a City University Council member.

They will replace retiring members David Fong and Teresa Lam.

The Government also announced the re-appointment of four serving members. They are Carlye Tsui, Roger Luk, Felix Fong and John Lee.

Welcoming the appointments, Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology John Tsang said the appointees bring a wealth of experience from different sectors to the authority.

He believes the authority is well equipped to meet new challenges in the fast-developing broadcasting sector.

Mr Tsang also thanked the two out-going members, commending their dedication and contributions over the past few years.

The authority is the statutory body for the regulation of broadcasting services in Hong Kong. Its membership is now: Daniel Fung (Chairman), Felix Fong, Roger Luk, John Lee, Carlye Tsui, Lincoln Soo, Gabriella Wong, Professor Leonard Cheng and Stella Lau, plus Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Francis Ho (Vice-Chairman), Director-General of Telecommunications Au Man-ho, and Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs Leo Kwan.
