41 schools awarded for green projects

Horticultural Maintenance champion
Green award: Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School has won the Horticultural Maintenance championship.
*

Forty-one secondary and primary schools and kindergartens have been commended for their meritorious green school projects and their contribution to environmental greening.

To promote green awareness among students, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department's Greening School Subsidy Scheme provides subsidies to schools to plant more trees and shrubs on campuses and to organise more greening activities. Awards are given to meritorious green school projects.

At the Greening School Project Award prize presentation ceremony today, the department's Chief Leisure Manager (Passive Amenities) Florence Tsui said the scheme has been well received by teachers and students, with the number of participating schools growing steadily from 300 in 2000 to more than 800 this year.

Noting the standard of green projects is on the rise, she said both teachers and students have worked hard to make their school's environment greener and more beautiful.
