Lantern Design Competition

Creative tradition: The Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition 2010 is open for entries.

*

Entries are being accepted for the Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition 2010, organised by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and the Education Bureau.

The competition promotes lantern-making and traditional Chinese arts. It has three divisions - primary school, secondary school, and open division for tertiary students and amateurs.

Primary and secondary students should submit entry forms through their schools by June 18. Open division participants should send their entry forms to the department's Entertainment Office, 11/F Queen Elizabeth Stadium, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or fax 2575 0864 by July 9.

Participants can enter as an individual or as a group of no more than four people. Each participant can submit only one entry, including group work. The same lantern cannot be submitted to more than one division.

All handmade lanterns with completed official labels should be submitted to the Exhibition Hall, 1/F Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, 5 Edinburgh Place, Central, between September 9 and 11 from 10am to 8pm.

The first three winners of each division will be awarded book coupons worth $1,800, $1,500 and $1,200, and entries judged to be outstanding will be awarded book coupons of $400.

Three grand prizes will also be awarded to those with distinguished designs and each winner will receive a book coupon of $500. All winners will also be awarded certificates of merit.

All lanterns will be displayed at the Exhibition Hall, 1/F Low Block, City Hall, from September 16 to 25.

Entry forms for the primary school and secondary school divisions can be downloaded from the bureau's website while entry forms for the open division can be downloaded from the department's website.
