Secretary for Education Michael Suen has discussed Hong Kong's experience in education reforms at a seminar in Kuala Lumpur.
Addressing today's seminar, organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Singapore, Mr Suen said: "For our youngsters to survive in this increasingly complex world, we must equip them with a broad knowledge base, an aptitude for life-long learning and the readiness to venture into new frontiers of knowledge."
He spoke on Hong Kong's new academic structure, and the international recognition of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination and its smooth articulation with overseas education systems.
Inviting Malaysian students to further their education in Hong Kong, Mr Suen said: "I believe Hong Kong is well placed to further internationalise its higher education sector and develop itself as a regional education hub. Hong Kong is a place where East meets West. The English-speaking environment, the cosmopolitan nature of campus life, and the rich cultural environment are all conducive to nurturing students with an international outlook."
Education collaboration
Later at a business luncheon hosted by the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute, Mr Suen called for stronger collaboration between Hong Kong and Malaysia on the education front.
He also met Malaysian Minister of Education Muhyiddin Yassin and Minister of Higher Education Mohamed Khaled Nordin to discuss education development.
Yesterday Mr Suen visited Tsun Jin High School, a renowned Chinese independent high school with good academic achievements. He also met Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Liu Jian.
Mr Suen will tomorrow visit Bukit Jalil Sports School, the first sports school in Malaysia committed to producing outstanding sportsmen, before flying to Jakarta.
