Each kindergarten, primary and secondary school in Hong Kong will receive a special grant of $3,000 to support their human swine flu prevention work, Secretary for Education Michael Suen says.
In a letter issued to all schools today, Mr Suen said although there is no sign of the spread of the disease in Hong Kong, the city should not slacken its preventive work. He urged schools to maintain precautionary measures and keep campuses clean.
The Education Bureau will announce disbursement details next week.
Mr Suen also reminded parents to pay close attention to students' personal hygiene and keep their homes clean. Parents' participation and support will enhance the precautionary measures' effectiveness, he added.
Visiting Canossa College and Canossa School (Hong Kong) in Quarry Bay today, Under Secretary for Education Kenneth Chen appealed to the Committee on Home-School Co-operation and schools' parent-teacher associations to support the city-wide Clean Hong Kong Campaign.
"They will organise a range of activities to disseminate the message of providing a clean environment to students both in schools and at home. I am very pleased at their enthusiastic response," Mr Chen said.
