Employment agency licence revoked

Labour Department

The employment agency licence of Goodearth Services Company has been revoked by the Labour Department after it was convicted for overcharging a job seeker and fined $9,000.

According to the Employment Ordinance and the Employment Agency Regulations, agencies can charge a job seeker a commission of not more than 10% of their first month's salary after a successful placement. The maximum penalty for overcharging is a $50,000 fine.

The Commissioner for Labour can refuse to issue or renew, or revoke, a licence if the employment agency operator has contravened a provision in the ordinance and regulations.
