Secretary for Education Michael Suen will chair two consultation forums to gauge public views on the bureau's proposal to fine-tune the medium of instruction policy for secondary schools.
Under the proposal secondary schools will be given greater autonomy and room for development in adopting their teaching language at junior secondary levels according to students' learning progress and interests, and school circumstances including teacher capability and other support measures.
It is premised on the principle of safeguarding students' learning effectiveness. The bureau has met the education sector and parents and will finalise the details by the end of May for full implementation in the 2010-11 school year.
The Cantonese forums will be held 6.30pm to 8pm March 12 and 13 at the Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre, 19 Suffolk Road, Kowloon Tong.
Interested parties can download the registration form here and return it by fax (2838 4009) or email by March 9. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Click here for details.
