*
Managerial, professional pay up 4.8%
*
Census & Statistics Department

The average monthly salaries for middle-level managerial and professional employees in all major sectors rose 4.8% in nominal terms in June over a year earlier, the Census & Statistics Department says.

After discounting the rise in consumer prices, the real salary index fell 1%.

Analysed by economic sector and on a year-on-year comparison in nominal terms, the average monthly salaries for middle-level managerial and professional employees increased from 0.8% to 8.1% in all major sectors.

After netting out the increase in consumer prices the real indices rose 2.1% for the building, construction and related trades sector, and 2.2% for the financial institutions and insurance sector.

The manufacturing, electricity and gas; wholesale, retail and import-export trades; and, the transport, storage and communications sectors saw falls of 2.5% to 4.7%.

In June, 68% of surveyed staff were entitled to profit-sharing bonuses, similar to last year's 69% figure. Those entitled to guaranteed year-end extra bonuses and housing benefits were 59% and 23%, up five and three percentage points on last year.
