Labour law to cover Chinese medical treatment

*
Labour Department

Law revisions aiming to recognise treatment, examination and certification given by registered Chinese medicine practitioners for workers' entitlement to benefits under Employees' Compensation Ordinance will take effect September 1.

The Labour Department said today the amendments are applicable to employees whose injuries, including occupational diseases as prescribed by the Employees' Compensation Ordinance, caused by accidents arising out of and in the course of employment happen on or after the effective date of the law revisions. More details will be available here.

To tie in with the revisions similar changes under the Pneumoconiosis & Mesothelioma (Compensation) Ordinance will also come into operation September 1. By then beneficiaries under the law can seek treatment from registered Chinese medicine practitioners and have their medical expenses for the treatment of pneumoconiosis and mesothelioma reimbursed.
