*

A team of eight Hong Kong secondary school students scored one gold, three silver and three bronze medals at the 7th China Western Mathematical Olympiad held in Nanning, Guangxi.

A total of 112 talented students from 24 teams took part in the competition from November 8 to 13. This year saw the youngest ever Hong Kong team participate in the contest, with members at Secondary Five or below.

The Hong Kong team was led by Dr Li Kin-yin from the University of Science & Technology. The eight Hong Kong students are members of the Education Bureau's Support Measures for the Exceptionally Gifted Students Scheme.

St Joseph's College student Wong Sze-wai won the gold award, while the silver award went to Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College's Ng Ngai-fung, La Salle College's Chung Ping-ngai and Wong Man-lok.

Bronze medallists are SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School's Ng Fung-ming, Ying Wa College's Yip Hok-pan and Diocesan Boys' School's Hung Ka-kin.
