From July 2, applications will be invited for the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council's Fellowships & Scholarships for Overseas Studies for 2005-06. Running to September 24, it also includes the award for disabled students.
To encourage further education in reputable institutions overseas, the fellowships lead to postgraduate degrees either by research or by coursework while the scholarships are for studies leading to undergraduate degrees.
The fellowship is valued at about $251,000 annually for up to three years for a Doctoral degree, or two years for a Master's degree. The scholarship value is about $232,000 per year for up to three years.
Successful candidates are expected to have a strong sense of commitment to Hong Kong and be ready to contribute significantly to the community upon their return from study. They will be required to work in Hong Kong for at least three years upon graduation.
