A website has been launched to enhance understanding of the national flag and help schools conduct flag-raising activities.
Promoted by the Moral & Civil Education Section of the Education & Manpower Bureau, the website aims to promote flag-raising activities and national education in schools.
The bureau's Chief Curriculum Development Officer Cheung Wing-hung said National flag-raising activities can enhance students' awareness of their national identity.
"We encourage schools to fly the national flag and the regional flag on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day (July 1)," he said.
Schools encouraged to raise flags
The bureau has issued a circular encouraging schools to fly the flags on important days, such as New Year's Day, National Day (October 1), the first day of a school year, school open days, graduation days and school sports events.
The website contains important points introducing the ceremony, examples and other reference material. The bureau has also produced various learning and teaching materials on VCD, video, ETV programmes and posters.
Apart from flying the flags at their schools, students can also join the flag-raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai, and experience the meaning of the occasion and its underlying values.
Students can also join the flag-raising ceremony on the Mainland while taking part in exchange programmes.
