Constitutional reform
Top officials promote reform package

Chief Executive Donald Tsang and his top officials toured Hong Kong today to promote the Government's 2012 constitutional reform proposals.

Mr Tsang urged the public to support the proposals as no progress has been made since the Legislative Council rejected the last proposal package in 2005.

The officials toured the city in two open-top buses today and distributed promotional leaflets in shopping malls in Admiralty and Kowloon Bay. They also launched a new promotion drive with the theme of "Act Now".

Speaking to the media in Sha Tin, Mr Tsang said he and his officials were glad to meet the public and explained to them the importance of supporting the constitutional reforms. He said the Government will fight to garner the support required to have the proposals accepted.

Speaking on a pre-recorded radio show this morning, Mr Tsang emphasised it is time for Hong Kong to lift the anchor and start sailing towards universal suffrage. He said, if like in 2005 the reform package is rejected again, Hong Kong will have been dragging the issue for 10 years.

He believes Hong Kong people do not want to see other competitors in the region moving ahead, while Hong Kong remains anchored because of arguments over political reform.
