LegCo decision on rail funding urged
*

Chief Executive Donald Tsang has called for an early decision by the Legislative Council on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link project's funding application.

After officiating at the Community Chest's Hong Kong & Kowloon Walk this morning, Mr Tsang reiterated the local section of the link is crucial infrastructure needed to ensure the city's long-term competitiveness.

The decision to build the link has been made after a long period of preparation, planning and consultation, he said, adding the community generally backs an early start to the project which will generate huge economic and social benefits, and allow people to enjoy a faster, more convenient and eco-friendly transport service.

He said he hoped the LegCo Finance Committee will vote on the funding application at its next meeting. He said people with dissenting views should express their opinions in a peaceful, rational and lawful manner.

Meanwhile, Mr Tsang said he is furious about last night's corrosive-liquid attack in Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei. Police are offering a reward for information on the case and Mr Tsang urged the public to help bring the culprit to justice.
