CE discusses economic issues in Beijing

*

Chief Executive Donald Tsang discussed numerous economic issues with the Central Government during his stay in Beijing and the results will be reflected in the upcoming Policy Address.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing today, Mr Tsang said he met officials of various Mainland units and organisations and their discussions covered a range of issues related to Hong Kong's economic development. They include:

* renminbi clearing arrangements;

* the renminbi bonds market;

* more Mainland enterprises listing in Hong Kong;

* planning of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link;

* progress of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge project;

* ways to reduce drug inflow from the Mainland to Hong Kong;

* measures to stop the influx of illegal immigrants;

* co-operation on cruise tourism development; and,

* Hong Kong's ties with Taiwan.

Mr Tsang said there is great potential for Hong Kong and the Mainland to jointly promote cruise tourism and develop multi-destination travel itineraries.

He said the extension of the Daya Bay nuclear power contract for 20 years will ensure a clean, stable and cost-effective electricity supply for Hong Kong.

When asked why some Hong Kong people were not invited to the National Day celebration in Beijing, Mr Tsang said the event was organised by the Central Government and the organiser decided the invitation list.

"All guests are invited on an individual basis. As I have looked at the guest list of Hong Kong, which represents quite a large delegation, it represents a wide cross-section of the Hong Kong community. I think on this matter we must respect the decision of the organiser."
