Helen Chan has been appointed Government Economist from November 1, succeeding Kwok Kwok-chuen who will leave the service.
Mrs Chan, 46, joined the Government in 1986 as an Economist. She was promoted to Senior Economist in 1991 and to Principal Economist in 1996.

Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue said Mrs Chan has sound professional skills in economic analyses, solid working experience and proven management abilities. She is confident Mrs Chan can meet the challenges ahead with professionalism and dedication.
Both Miss Yue and Financial Secretary John Tsang thanked Mr Kwok for his contribution over the last four years, praising his professionalism and dedication to the job as a constant source of confidence and support to the Government.
"Under his leadership the Economic Analysis & Business Facilitation Unit of the Financial Secretary's Office has provided the Government with quality analytical and advisory services to promote the Government's efforts in facilitating business," Miss Yue said.
Mr Kwok, 54, joined the then Economic Services Branch of the Government as an Economist in 1985. He also held senior economist positions in the Office of the Commissioner of Banking, the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation and the Standard Chartered Bank before he was appointed Government Economist in 2004.
