*

The Government has appointed Jeremy Godfrey as the Government Chief Information Officer. He will take up the post on April 7.

Welcoming the appointment, Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue today said Mr Godfrey possesses sound professional skills, solid working experience in the information and communications technology field, and proven management abilities.

"I have every confidence that he will bring his wealth of knowledge to the work of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, and take a proactive role in championing the development of ICT and e-government in Hong Kong," Miss Yue added.

Telecom expert

Mr Godfrey graduated from Cambridge University in 1984 and served as private secretary to the Secretary of State of the Department of Trade & Industry in the UK Government between 1987 and 1989.

In 1989, Mr Godfrey took up a management appointment with the Cable & Wireless Group. From 1989 to 1990, he worked for Hongkong Telecom on the regulatory strategies for the liberalisation of telecommunications in Hong Kong.

From 1990 to 1994, he worked in the UK for other business under the Cable & Wireless Group. From 1995 to 1998, he served first as Director of Strategic Planning and then as Director of Marketing in Hongkong Telecom.

From 1998 to 2007, Mr Godfrey was a partner with PA Consulting Group in Hong Kong. Since November 2007 and prior to his acceptance of the appointment from the Hong Kong Government as Government Chief Information Officer, he worked as an independent consultant advising clients on strategic issues and business-change projects.
