District administration summit set for May

District dialogue: Director of Home Affairs Pamela Tan says the Government will work closely with District Council members.

*

A summit on district administration to be chaired by the Chief Executive will be held in May to enable senior government officials to exchange views with district councils on livelihood issues, Director of Home Affairs Pamela Tan says.

Meeting district councilors from the New Territories today Mrs Tan said since last January department heads with direct interface with the public have been attending district council meetings to maintain regular dialogue and the arrangement will stay.

On the pilot scheme on the enhanced role of district councils, she said the encouraging experience is a positive indicator of the Government's initiatives in strengthening district work.

Mrs Tan said the Government will continue work closely with district council members to upgrade various arrangements. A close dialogue on the future planning of district administration will also be maintained.

A briefing session for district councillors from the Hong Kong and Kowloon regions will be held March 17.
