Cultural promotion: Kisaburo Tokai and Henry Tang discuss cultural exchange and co-operation between Japan and Hong Kong.

Chief Secretary Henry Tang has briefed Japan's officials and business sector on Hong Kong's latest economic, social and political developments on the second day of his visit to the country.

 

Mr Tang today met with Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology Kisaburo Tokai. He briefed Mr Tokai on the West Kowloon Cultural District Project and learned about the Japanese government's policy in promoting arts and culture. Both sides agreed to promote cultural exchange and co-operation.

 

Mr Tang also called on Asahiko Mihara, Director General of the International Affairs Bureau of the Liberal Democratic Party and Secretary General of the Japan Hong Kong Parliamentarians' League. Mr Tang invited Mr Mihara to visit Hong Kong.

 

In a meeting with Japan Business Federation members and business leaders Mr Tang discussed the economic condition of Japan and Hong Kong and the prospect of bilateral economic co-operation.

 

Mr Tang said he was delighted to learn the Japanese business sector is generally optimistic about Hong Kong's economy. In view of Japan's experience and technology in environmental protection. Mr Tang said there are ample business opportunities through mutual co-operation in this area.

 

Mr Tang also met the local media and briefed them on Hong Kong's latest developments.
