HK Observatory wins technology award

 

The Hong Kong Observatory has won the gold prize in the Best Public Service Application category of the 2007 Hong Kong Information & Communications Technology Awards.

 

At today's presentation ceremony at the Convention & Exhibition Centre the Institute of Engineers judging panel praised the Observatory's website which addresses citizens' demand for more comprehensive, accurate and timely weather information, and its provision of meteorological education to the public.

Wireless weather: The Hong Kong Observatory plans to expand its award-winning Internet services to mobile platforms allowing people to download the latest weather data via their PDA or smartphone.


The site has had more than a billion visits since its 1996 launch with about three million visits per day, making it the most popular Hong Kong Government website.
