District Councils discuss facility management

*

The Sai Kung, Tuen Mun, Wan Chai and Wong Tai Sin District Councils have discussed facility management with their 14 counterparts in preparation for the full implementation of the District Council Review in January.

They held an experience-sharing session at the Science Museum today. Concluding the session, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing said that with the support and participation of the four pilot districts, good progress has been made in projects designed to benefit local residents.

Operational experience from the scheme has also provided helpful indicators on the effectiveness of arrangements for the full implementation of the review recommendations, he said.

To prepare for the full implementation of the review recommendations in the 18 districts, additional funds will be allocated to the councils. A dedicated district minor works block vote of $300 million will be provided for the councils annually from 2008-09 to conduct minor works projects.

Council funds will also rise to $300 million a year to organise district sports, recreational and cultural activities and community-involvement projects.
