The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says the services of about 30 staff helping with roads and minor works in country parks will no longer be required when their contracts expire in the coming months.
Having reviewed the progress of work and the level of manpower required, the department today said contract staff can be reduced progressively. Thirteen will have their contracts expire on March 31, and another 19 will have their contracts extended for a few more months to tie in with work progress. The contracts of these 19 staff will not be renewed upon expiry of the extended contract.
Employed on non-civil service contract terms as casual craftsmen and casual workers, the staff have been given sufficient notice. The department will liaise with the Labour Department to render employment assistance.
