Commissioner for Transport Alan Wong has called on the taxi trade to introduce multi-purpose vehicles with larger compartments for luggage and wheelchairs.
Speaking at the Taxi Driver Commendation Scheme prize presentation ceremony today, Mr Wong encouraged drivers to take courses to enhance their knowledge on customer service and safe driving.
A self-learning video programme has been launched online, giving drivers the chance to review the key elements of quality service, including modules on basic operation, customer service and occupational safety. A VCD version will be distributed to taxi associations.
At today's ceremony, 17 quality drivers with good conduct and 800 who reported lost property found in their taxis were commended. The quality taxi drivers, nominated by the public and tourists and assessed by a panel under the Quality Taxi Services Committee, were awarded a Quality Taxi Driver Identity Plate, certificates, and LPG and cash coupons. Merited drivers and 43 taxi associations and radio stations were also awarded certificates and LPG coupons.
